About this course

Staff wellbeing is easy to talk about and hard to pin down. Does everyone feel able to speak up? Does the midday supervisor's view count as much as the deputy head's? Can someone admit a lesson went badly without worrying about it all week?

Start with one question for your team. In a single word, how should staff feel here, and how would you know you'd got there? From there, the session works through five things every member of staff should be able to say, such as "I belong" and "I can stumble". Behind "I am safe" sit four kinds of safety (physical, emotional, social and cognitive), a quick way to check how your school feels to someone new.

One idea is worth taking straight back to school. When leaders share their own mistakes, newer staff find it much easier to ask for help.

  • For governors, mental health leads and 2 other roles. All phases.
