About this course
78% of deaths by suicide are male, yet only 38% of referrals to talking therapies are for men. In a school, that gap can look like the colleague who's always fine, always joking, and answering emails from the beach in August.
The presenter is a primary headteacher and mental health first aid instructor who missed every warning sign in himself until he was planning to end his life. So the advice is practical and hard-won. You'll learn the three Ds that separate a low patch from depression, and why a sudden, unexplained recovery can be a warning sign. There are small habits that help too, like a regular 'happiness hour' and 'worry time'.
You'll also think about how to build a staffroom where men can say they're not OK, starting with dropping the word 'banter'.
- For early career teachers, governors and 5 other roles. All phases.
