About this collection

Inclusion is easy to agree with and hard to see in a school day. Staff can't always explain the difference between equality and equity, and a child who has lived through trauma can be perfectly safe in a classroom and still not feel it.

The courses work from both ends. You'll get the ideas and shared language behind equality, diversity and inclusion, including the Equality Act's nine protected characteristics and what to do when you get someone's pronouns wrong. Then it comes down to individual children: the window of tolerance, responding in the right order (regulate, relate, reason), and changes to seating, routines and transitions that help a child with SEND or a care-experienced child settle.

You'll have a sensible place to start in your school, and changes you can make in your own classroom tomorrow.

What you'll learn

  • Explain equality, equity, diversity and inclusion in plain terms to colleagues
  • Apply the nine protected characteristics and inclusive language to school life
  • Help a child who is safe with you actually feel safe
  • Respond to a dysregulated child in the right order: regulate, relate, reason
  • Adapt seating, displays and transitions for children with SEND or early trauma
